Typically when people think of psychotherapy, they think of the stereotypical therapist who sits there, nods once in a while, writes a few notes, and asks “how does that make you feel?” I am not that type of therapist. Though yes, we will talk about your childhood. That is, when you feel ready. After all, psychotherapy is your space and your time. I establish the pace and topics based on your needs. You are the expert in your own life, I am simply there as your co-pilot to help you navigate through the chaos that life can bring. A very important thing: You are not the problem. The problem is the problem. You are not to blame. The problem is the unwanted guest that is refusing eviction. Your brain is simply trying to keep you safe in weird ways. Life is hard enough as it is, you do not need to be hard on yourself too. My focus during psychotherapy is for you to feel seen, heard, and understood regardless of where you are coming from. Bring your mess, whatever it may be, and we’ll sort it out together. As a systemic therapist, I look at the whole picture, not just you. Side by side we will explore with curiosity your relationships and family dynamics (including pets) as well as other factors that make up who you are, such as your culture, lifestyle, and any other factors that shape your world.
